Rubén Uría recalls Sørloth's goal at Montjuïc that sent Atlético top of the table
Sunday's Atlético de Madrid v FC Barcelona clash will decide who sits top of LaLiga EA Sports. Rubén Uría explains the permutations and looks back at the 1-2 win in December 2024 that made Atleti winter champions, top of the table at the halfway stage.
This Sunday, as many as three teams are in the running to top LaLiga, depending on the result of Atlético de Madrid v FC Barcelona. If Atleti win, they go top; if Barça win, Barça go top; and if it ends in a draw, a Real Madrid victory would leave the contenders level on points in a three-way tie, as Hugo Condés told Uría.
Rubén dug into the archives to recall the last time the two sides played for first place: December 2024 at Montjuïc. Barça were top, the score was 1-1 and the Catalans threw everything forward, but in stoppage time Atlético de Madrid broke on the counter, Alexander Sørloth met a cross-field ball to make it 1-2, and Atleti went top and were crowned winter champions.
