Uría: 'The flak Giuliano gets is down to hatred of his father'
Rubén Uría separates legitimate criticism from the insults aimed at Simeone's son
Rubén Uría and Pascu discuss the criticism and insults directed at Giuliano Simeone
Prompted by a question from the chat about whether homegrown players are ever properly valued, Rubén Uría argues that a section of the fanbase is taking out its hatred of Simeone on Giuliano. An academy product who gives everything, he says, does not deserve that.
A viewer asks whether what the club has at home, such as Barrios, Coque or Torres, will ever be properly valued. Rubén Uría feels the question carries an implicit criticism of part of the fanbase, and he expands on it.
He argues that lately it seems far easier to lay into a player, and that there is always one who ends up absorbing all of it. Right now it is Giuliano Simeone: according to Uría, the hatred some people feel for the father is being dumped on the son, and what he reads about him makes him feel sick. People may like him more or less, he concedes, but he is an academy product who gives everything for the shirt, and treating him like this strikes him as really ugly.
Pascu adds another point: you can question whether Giuliano plays because he is Simeone's son, but Scaloni is no fool and he brought him on in a World Cup final when he could have picked others. On top of that, he had offers to leave in the summer.
Uría also responds to a viewer in the chat who points out that anyone famous gets criticised: of course everyone does, he says, but saying you don't rate a player or that he should be sold is one thing; insulting him or calling him a nepotism pick is something entirely different.
