Atlético vs Barcelona: a look back at last season's meetings

Looking back at last season's meetings between Atlético de Madrid and FC Barcelona, one fact stands out: Atlético lost more matches, yet went through in both knockout ties between the two sides.

Our contributor Álex Cabrera takes us through last season's meetings: although Atlético de Madrid lost to FC Barcelona as many as four times, Simeone's side came through unscathed and progressed in both the Copa del Rey and the Champions League, knocking out Hansi Flick's team along the way.

Barcelona did win both LaLiga meetings, beating Atlético 3-1 at the Camp Nou and 2-1 at the Metropolitano. They also won the second leg of the Copa tie (3-0) and the second leg of the Champions League tie (2-1 in Madrid). Neither result was enough, however.

That was partly because Atlético's only two wins were emphatic: a 4-0 victory in the Copa that would see them through, and a 2-0 win at the Camp Nou in the Champions League that knocked Barça out. What will happen this time at the Metropolitano?
