Simeone's arrival at Atlético: "Lads, I came here to win"
Kiko's story from Jesús Gil's pre-season and the parallel with Cuti Romero in his second training session
Rubén Uría recounts Kiko's story about Simeone's first team talk as a player
Rubén Uría revisits a story Kiko once told him: freshly signed, Simeone called his teammates to his hotel room and pulled them up one by one. Cuti Romero, he reveals, did something similar in his second training session.
The panel is discussing Cuti Romero's leadership when Rubén Uría digs into his memory. Kiko once told him that when Jesús Gil signed Simeone as a player, during one of the first pre-season matches, at the Colombino tournament, the Argentinian called his teammates to a talk in his room.
There he told them he hadn't come for that, he had come to win. And he went through them one by one: Kiko was tall and had to score headers; Toni had quality and had to deliver the balls in. He pulled every one of them up, and the others looked at each other thinking this newcomer was out of his mind.
Uría says he was told something similar about Cuti's second training session. Nacho Donado adds that Hjulmand would do the same if he spoke Spanish, and recalls that Kang-in Lee, with his move all but sealed, was already asking for his future teammates' phone numbers so he could call them. That, he concludes, is what Atleti have signed.
