Rubén Uría picks his iconic Atleti image: Gabi sprinting 40 metres to lift Griezmann after his goal against Bayern. He likens it to Rocky splitting Drago's cheekbone open – proof that the machine bleeds too.
Discussing the tie against Guardiola's Bayern, which Rubén Uría ranks alongside the Celtic tie as the most legendary in Atlético's history, the panel recalls how much they suffered in that second leg.
Rubén chooses one image: Gabi running 40 metres to carry Griezmann aloft after the goal. Gabi lived it like just another fan, he explains: they're bombarding us, they're battering us, but with the first chance we get we score against them. It was like saying 'we're here'.
To explain it, he turns to the cinema: Rocky against Ivan Drago. Drago looks perfect, he gives Rocky a beating, and suddenly Rocky lands one and splits his cheekbone open. He isn't a machine, he's just a bloke. That is what Griezmann's goal felt like to him: they bleed too, it can be done. The panel adds names from that night – Oblak, Godín and Giménez – and Rubén recalls what Filipe Luis told him: they couldn't get past the halfway line, they never got a sniff of the ball, he had never experienced anything like it.
