Outrage: the stonewall penalty on Hancko that VAR chose to ignore
Hugo Condés: "Live it looks like nothing, but the replay is blatant"
Rubén Uría shows the still of the stamp on Hancko
Hugo Condés breaks down the possible penalty: a stamp on Hancko's Achilles tendon with ten minutes left and Atlético down to ten men. Rubén Uría shows the still image and Hugo argues it was at least a yellow card.
Hugo Condés describes the incident that has left Atlético fuming. There were around ten minutes left, Atleti were down to ten men and had won their only corner since going a man down. The ball was swung into the near post, Hancko got on the end of it and was left hurt in the box without anyone paying him any attention.
Hugo admits that, watching live, he did not think anything of it. But after the match he saw a replay which, he says, clearly shows the Stuttgart defender stamping on Hancko's Achilles tendon, with the Slovakian still managing to get his effort away. It is one of those incidents that go unnoticed in real time but are blatant for VAR, which is why he is surprised the video officials did not call the referee over to the monitor. The more he watches it, the more it looks like a penalty to him.
Rubén Uría finds the frame and puts it on screen: Hancko's heel is visible, along with the Stuttgart player treading on it. Hugo stresses the context, with Atleti a man down ten minutes from time, and maintains it is a penalty and at least a yellow card, recalling that not so long ago stamps like that were punished with a red.
