Oblak denies certain goal with last-gasp save against Deportivo
The Slovenian kept out a close-range effort that the whole stadium was already celebrating as a goal
Nacho Donado analyses Oblak's saves against Deportivo
Rubén Uría believes the Depor player struck the ball thinking more about not missing than about scoring. Nacho Donado adds that Oblak also enjoyed some luck in the first half, with an almost involuntary save.
The final play of the match could have cost Atlético two points. Rubén Uría breaks it down calmly: Deportivo's Kevin had never found himself in that kind of situation and, in his view, fear got the better of him. He stuck out his foot thinking almost more about not missing than about scoring, and that fear led him to shoot straight down the middle, where Oblak was waiting to save it.
Rubén points out that in the second half Atleti had chances to win 2-0 or 3-0 but finished them poorly, and he stands by his view: the first half was dreadful and cannot be repeated at Atlético de Madrid.
Nacho Donado offers a different take on the chance: Kevin did not expect the ball to reach him after it had gone past a host of Atlético players, and the way he made contact was never going to send that shot into the net. He admits that Oblak was fortunate both there and in the first-half incident, when he stopped the ball with his left foot behind his body almost involuntarily, although he acknowledges that the Slovenian had a good game.
