Obed Vargas and Rodrigo Mendoza left out of Atlético squad for Vitoria
Academy players Castillo and Jorge Domínguez come in, with Mendoza's absence the most puzzling
Rubén Uría asks the panel what has happened with Obed Vargas and Mendoza
Simeone's squad for Mendizorroza leaves out Obed Vargas and Rodrigo Mendoza despite both training as normal. The panel wonders what has happened, particularly with Mendoza, who had just shone with the Under-21s.
Atlético's squad list for Mendizorroza arrives in the middle of the discussion. Rubén Uría reads it out: Musso, Oblak, Llorente, Koke, Kang-in Lee, Barrios, Sorloth, Baena, Lookman, Jonathan David, Almada, Hancko, Pubill, Julián, Giuliano, Cuti Romero, Grimaldo, Gallagher, Le Normand, Esquivel and, on top of that, academy players Castillo, Dani Martínez and Jorge Domínguez. Missing are Obed Vargas and Rodrigo Mendoza.
The question is immediate: what has happened, if everyone was available and they trained that very morning? Uría jokes that someone has jinxed it.
One of the panellists separates the two cases. Obed's omission does not surprise him as much: it is not the first time he has been left out for tactical reasons while fit, and he was also the last to return from the international breaks. Mendoza's, however, does puzzle him, as he had been performing well with the Under-21s, with two assists. Half-jokingly, he suggests it might be a punishment for appearing on the channel, and Uría asks him not to say such things, because people believe them. The possibility of a physical problem remains open, although nobody knows for sure.
