Julián Álvarez apologised on his own initiative, says Marcos Durán
Marcos Durán reveals nothing was arranged with the club before the apology
Marcos Durán explains how Julián came to the decision to apologise
Marcos Durán explains that Julián Álvarez waited until he had scored at the Metropolitano before facing the fans, and that he chose to speak of his own accord, feeling he owed something to those who kept supporting him.
Rubén Uría asks Marcos Durán how Julián Álvarez's message left him feeling. Marcos was not surprised that the striker waited until scoring his first goal at the Metropolitano to speak: he believes the player himself knew he first had to answer on the pitch.
The most striking part is his account of how it came about: from what he understands and has been told, nobody asked him to speak and nothing was arranged with the club. He points out that when players do not want to do the flash interview, they usually ask the club to be excused; in this case it was his own decision.
Marcos thinks Julián has seen in recent weeks that many people are already applauding him at home and that there are fans who will never turn their backs on him, and that he felt indebted to those who, in his own words, kept backing him. As for the manner of it, he notes that Julián is shy, that some players find it easier to talk to the media while he struggles with it, but that he got across the message he wanted to deliver.
