Bayern Munich have never won away at Atlético de Madrid
Eight meetings since 1974, with the wound of Brussels and the goals of Saúl and Carrasco still fresh in the memory

Rubén Uría looks back at the history of Atlético v Bayern ahead of the Champions League clash: the Bavarians have never beaten Atleti on their own turf, and the record under Simeone could hardly be more even.
In the story of the day, Rubén Uría puts Atlético v Bayern into context. The fixture has been played eight times since 1974, and the most striking fact is that Bayern have never won at Atleti's ground: one draw and two Atlético wins, in 2015-16 and 2016-17.
Under Simeone, the record is evenly balanced: two Atleti wins, one draw and three defeats. The most recent European meeting came in the 2020-21 group stage, a 1-1 draw at the Metropolitano with João Félix on the scoresheet.
Uría revisits the memories close to Atlético fans' hearts: Saúl's Maradona-esque goal, Carrasco's thunderous strike after a wild run and, for older supporters, the lingering pain of the 1974 final in Brussels. Luis Aragonés scored and Bayern equalised in the final minute of extra time; with no penalty shootout in those days, the final was replayed with half the Atlético side injured, and Bayern won 4-0.
