Atlético injury update: Koke, Cuti Romero and Cardoso before Bayern
The big surprise at training was that Cuti Romero never stepped onto the pitch and stayed in the gym
Nacho Donado gives an update from the Metropolitano on Koke, Cardoso and Cuti Romero
Speaking from the Metropolitano, Nacho Donado relays what the club have told him: nobody has been ruled out for Bayern. Koke has the best chance, Cardoso looks unlikely to start and Cuti's absence from the pitch has left people puzzled.
With Atlético a day away from hosting Bayern Munich, Rubén Uría checks in with Nacho Donado to go over the fitness of the knocks after training at Majadahonda. The starting question is whether Johnny Cardoso has still not been ruled out.
Donado answers with the line the club have passed on to him: no player has been ruled out of the squad. From there, he adds that everyone can believe it or not depending on how things develop.
The big surprise, he explains, was that Cuti Romero did not appear on the pitch. He had been in the squad and had travelled for the Levante game, and when Donado asked, he was not told of any illness. His theory is load management or a tactical decision, although he admits he does not know.
As for Cardoso, he has been training alone for two days and Donado would rule him out of the starting XI; it would be a huge surprise. Koke, on the other hand, has been with the group for two days and, despite his expected layoff being longer, is the one with the best chance of making the squad. His conclusion: all three could make it, so it is best to be cautious.
