Atlético de Madrid's Ciudad del Deporte: how the works are progressing
Footage filmed by Jorge San Cristóbal shows beams, cladding and the shape of the pool
Rubén Uría describes progress on the shopping centre and golf area at the Ciudad del Deporte
Rubén Uría explains how work is progressing on the Ciudad del Deporte next to the Metropolitano: three plots have been driving the pace in recent weeks, among them the leisure building with the artificial beach that has prompted so many jokes.
Jorge San Cristóbal took a walk around the Atlético de Madrid Ciudad del Deporte construction site and filmed footage that Rubén Uría shows on the programme. The verdict is that the work is moving along at a good pace, with exponential growth in recent weeks across several areas intended for public use, in line with the agreement with Madrid City Council.
Three plots stand out. The first is the shopping centre attached to the car park near the stadium's south stand, where work is under way with concrete and beams on what would be the basement or ground level. The second is the golf practice area, where the main building already has its steel beams in place and is in the middle of the cladding and roofing phase.
The third is the building that has prompted the most jokes: the one housing the artificial beach, the surf beach and the waves. The main leisure and dining building is progressing both on the walls and inside, and the shape of the pool is already starting to become apparent.
From there, Uría prefers to let viewers judge from the footage how the work is going.
