Atlético boost as Johnny Cardoso set to be fit for Bayern Munich
Koke's more serious injury means the club must be more cautious, while 'Cuti' Romero slots into the starting XI in Simeone's rehearsal
Nacho Donado gives an update on Cardoso and Koke ahead of the matches against Levante and Bayern Munich.
Nacho Donado reports on Atlético de Madrid's training session, in which Koke and Cardoso worked on their own. The signs are encouraging for both, but especially for Johnny, who, barring a surprise, will be available against Bayern Munich.
After Atlético de Madrid's training session in Majadahonda, Nacho Donado explained what he saw at the club's training ground: Koke and Johnny Cardoso were working on their own on one of the adjoining pitches, while the rest of the squad prepared for Saturday's match against Levante UD.
The picture, he acknowledges, gives grounds for optimism about both players, albeit with caveats. Koke's injury was more serious than Cardoso's, so with the captain it is a case of being more cautious and waiting to see how he responds in the coming training sessions.
With Johnny, the message is much clearer: according to his information, something very serious would have to happen for him to miss the game against Bayern Munich. He does not know how many minutes Cardoso might get, but he is available. First, though, it remains to be seen how he trains on Friday, before the team travels to Valencia to take on Levante.
And the best news of the day, he insists, is 'Cuti' Romero, who is not only back with the group but is even rehearsing in the starting XI.
