Almeida's Valdebebas rezoning error: from €98.6m to €1.46m
Rubén Uría calls for the deal on Real Madrid's land to be reconsidered
Rubén Uría reads the report on the Valdebebas rezoning
Rubén Uría reacts to a report in El País: Madrid City Council rezoned Real Madrid's land at Valdebebas on the basis of a report that inflated the benefit to the city. He asks why the deal is still going ahead.
Stressing that he does not want to talk politics, Rubén Uría reads out a headline from El País: Madrid mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida admits an 'indisputable error' in the rezoning of Real Madrid's training ground at Valdebebas, but insists it does not derail the deal.
As he explains, the report put the benefit to the city's coffers at 98.6 million when in reality it is 1.46 million. 'They said 100 kilos were coming their way and they get 1,' he sums up.
Uría asks what really mattered: the money the City Council would bring in for services for the people of Madrid, or something else. He points out that the rezoning is justified because it increases the value of Real Madrid's land by 185 million, on the strength of a report that overstated the public benefit by more than 90 million. If there is an error, he says, it should be corrected, and he asks whether nobody is going to challenge it. For him, it is a disgrace.
