Sorloth makes a strong impression against Deportivo La Coruña
Rubén Uría questioned the substitution and then watched the Norwegian's best tactical display
Rubén Uría admits he was wrong about the Sorloth substitution
Rubén Uría admits that when he saw Sorloth come on, his first thought was 'but why?'. The striker then caused problems running in behind and, in Rubén's view, produced his best tactical performance. A lesson against prejudging.
Rubén Uría owns up to a mistake of his own on the night. When he saw Simeone bring on Alexander Sorloth, he privately thought that he could not understand the change.
But the man who made the call understood that if Sorloth made runs into space he could cause damage, and that is exactly what happened. Rubén believes that, tactically, these were the Norwegian's best minutes that he can remember: he read the game well and attacked the space through the middle. Along the way, he mentions that Sorloth was shown a card which, in his opinion, deserved a ten for the referee.
The conclusion is a small piece of self-criticism: sometimes prejudice gets put ahead of what actually happens, and there is nothing better than being proved wrong.
Alberto Carballo agrees that the substitutes made a good impact: Giuliano brought plenty of energy, Lenormand did his job and Mendoza perhaps a little less so, but all three delivered.
