Simeone shares the credit after equalling Luis Aragonés's record
Simeone thanks Miguel Ángel Gil, Enrique Cerezo, his coaching staffs and the players
Simeone discusses his record in the press room at the Ciudad de Valencia
Speaking to the press after Levante v Atlético de Madrid, Simeone says he does not feel the record of 344 wins as his own, recalls who backed him when he had barely any experience in Europe and spreads the credit between the players and his coaching staff.
Simeone was asked about the record for wins in LaLiga history at his post-match press conference following Levante 0-2 Atlético de Madrid. His answer was a statement of gratitude: he does not feel it is his own, but rather something to be shared.
He went back to the moment when Miguel Ángel Gil thought of him and brought him in when he was not yet a coach with much experience in Europe, beyond his work in Argentina and Italy. Without that backing, he said, they would not have got this far.
He also mentioned everyone who has been part of his coaching staffs over these 15 years and, above all, the players: without them it is impossible. He spoke of commitment, humility, persistence and playing for an idea and a plan. He admitted that every day a match kicks off he gives thanks, because spending 15 years at one club is not easy, and he signed off by once again thanking Miguel Ángel Gil, Enrique Cerezo, the players and his current coaching staff.
