The two Alejandros are clicking down Atlético's left flank. Simeone assessed their understanding, compared it with that of Llorente and Giuliano on the right and explained what Grimaldo offers.
The third clip from the press conference picked out by Rubén Uría concerns a small partnership that is taking shape on Atlético's left flank: the one between Álex Baena and Alejandro Grimaldo.
Asked by Hugo Condés of Onda Cero, Simeone said these are partnerships that develop over time, like the one usually formed on the right by Giuliano, Pablo Barrios, Marcos Llorente or Marc Pubill when he plays at full-back. He highlighted that Grimaldo offers a great deal going forward, allows the team to attack both inside and outside, and is a winger playing at full-back. He added that the staff are helping him grow defensively and that the player is fully committed to improving that side of his game.
Uría concludes that the pair understand each other very well and, quoting Jorge Valdano, hopes these small partnerships keep lasting and working for Atlético.
