Referee Sánchez Martínez squares up to Giuliano Simeone
Nacho Donado calls for the Referees' Committee to sanction Sánchez Martínez over his reaction towards Giuliano
Nacho Donado and Hugo Condés discuss Sánchez Martínez's performance
Nacho Donado and Hugo Condés agree: Sánchez Martínez should not have confronted Giuliano Simeone after booking him. Hugo points out that he used to be a reliable referee but has been doing strange things lately.
What happened to referee Sánchez Martínez last night? He had a difficult game, and in one incident he got more heated than he should have with Giuliano Simeone, whom he booked and then went on to confront. Rubén Uría asks what was wrong with the referee, who always looks angry but this time genuinely was.
Nacho Donado describes the incident: Sánchez Martínez penalised Giuliano Simeone for a foul that, in his view, was not one. Giuliano applauded, and the referee, after showing him the card, went over to square up to him. Nacho has said it on the radio: the Referees' Technical Committee should sanction him, because a referee cannot do that.
Hugo Condés notes that other referees would have shown him a second yellow, but Nacho replies that this would simply be applying the laws of the game; what is unacceptable is confronting a player. Hugo ends up agreeing and compares it to Baena, who cannot go around shoving people either, because he is earning himself a reputation among referees.
Alberto Carballo returns to the three yellow cards shown in the space of one or two minutes, which, in his view, changed the atmosphere in the stadium and pushed Atleti over the edge. Hugo recalls that a couple of years ago Sánchez Martínez was a safe pair of hands, but that lately he has been doing strange things.
