Mateu Alemany praised Marc Pubill on DAZN but said nothing about a new deal. For Rubén Uría, that confirms what he reported on the show: Atlético want to improve his contract, but they are in no hurry to do so.
Rubén Uría had already warned on the 'El Club de Uría' show that Marc Pubill's contract renewal was not as close as many outlets were reporting. After hearing Mateu Alemany speak on DAZN before the match, he stands by that view.
Alemany said the club are very happy with the player and hope he stays for many years, but he made no mention of a renewal. For Uría, the reason is simple: Atlético feel the time is not right. There is complete harmony between the two sides, the club know he is a tremendous player and will improve his contract, but they want to announce agreements when they decide to.
As with Jonathan David, Atleti are in no rush to renew Marc Pubill's contract. Speaking on DAZN about the Canadian, Mateu Alemany said: "There's really nothing new. We agreed a purchase option with Juventus to be exercised in June. There's plenty of time. We're happy, and he's happy with us. There's plenty of time, and right now we're focused on what we have in front of us: lots of competitions, a game every three days, and in this case being focused on today's match."
And on the rumours of a possible new deal for Marc Pubill, Mateu explained on DAZN: "It's the same as what I said about Jonathan: there are situations that are constantly being assessed, depending on performance and so on. I'm not going to talk about anyone. Marc's progress has been spectacular, becoming a world champion. We're very happy with him and we hope he'll be with us for many years."
Rubén Uría is clear that Pubill will renew, but not imminently. What's more, he believes it is not yet the right time for it to happen and that Atleti are in no hurry at all. And if an agreement were close, he argues, the sporting director would have said they were very near. Uría calls for calm: Pubill will stay at Atleti, but some people want to rush ahead on this matter, and it is not a priority for the club right now.
