Julián Álvarez's goal drought is starting to weigh heavy
Three Champions League games in a row without scoring for the first time, and twice denied by the woodwork against Manchester United
Nacho Donado, reporting from Stuttgart, analyses Julián Álvarez's goalless run
Reporting from Stuttgart, Nacho Donado reviews Julián Álvarez's lean spell in front of goal: no league goal since February, but coming close in recent matches. Ending it would be the big story of the night.
Rubén Uría put the question straight to Nacho Donado, on assignment in Stuttgart: will Julián Álvarez's barren run, which has dragged on for an eternity, finally come to an end?
Donado ran through the numbers from memory: his last goal may have been a penalty against Arsenal; in LaLiga he believes the striker has not scored since February, and against Manchester United he went three consecutive Champions League games without finding the net for the first time. Even so, he stressed that in the last match Álvarez had two or three clear chances and even hit the post, so a goal has been on its way.
For the journalist, a Julián goal in Stuttgart would be one of the big stories of the night, lifting a weight off the shoulders of both the player and the team. Rubén summed it up: that's two shots off the woodwork already, now it's time he scored.
