El Club Uría panel won over by Cuti Romero
Alberto del Pozo rates Cuti above Van Dijk and Cubarsí at organising play from the back
Alberto del Pozo, speaking from Memphis, describes how the team looks to Cuti when the opposition press
Rubén Uría believes Cuti Romero has the look of a player who will define an era, even if Godín and Luis Pereira are in another league. Alberto del Pozo goes further: when the pressure is on, everyone looks to Cuti, and neither Van Dijk nor Cubarsí do what he does.
Rubén Uría holds nothing back: he knows Cuti Romero has not been around long and that Godín and Luis Pereira are in another league, but the impression he gives is of a man who will define an era. He highlights that Romero is a winner, that he owns his mistakes, and the way he reads the game, takes charge and goes into challenges. "He gets you out of your seat."
Alberto del Pozo, speaking from Memphis, sums it up with an image: when the opposition press high and things get hot, everyone looks to the same guy. The ball goes to him and he organises everything; the others seem to position themselves according to what he does with it. He says he has seen nothing like it at the World Cup or in the Champions League: he does not see Van Dijk or Cubarsí doing that.
Jesús Martínez Caja adds a nuance: he can come across as a slow centre-back, because he sometimes stops with the ball, but he anticipates because he has the move in his head before it happens. Uría closes with another key point: Cuti lives on the edge, and sees football as taking risks.
