Cuti Romero: Atlético's best signing in a long time?
Jorge San Cristóbal highlights his composure on the ball and how he has taken charge of the defence within a few months
Jorge San Cristóbal praises Cuti Romero's authority in the Atlético defence during the panel discussion
Jorge San Cristóbal praises Cuti Romero's assurance, Premier League experience and authority, naming him as perhaps Atlético's best signing in a long time. Rubén Uría goes further: he is starting to think this is the club's best transfer window in years.
Jorge San Cristóbal takes the floor again to talk about Cuti Romero, and wants to look beyond his defending: on the ball, he says, he also likes him a lot. Romero gives him a sense of calm and assurance, and when a pass is needed to break the lines, he breaks them. You can tell he has experience of playing in a league like the Premier League, where not a single mistake goes unpunished.
Above all, San Cristóbal stresses the Argentine's authority and personality. He has arrived and made himself the leader of the defence: he organises his teammates, he went to embrace Baena and Simeone when the goal went in and, San Cristóbal recalls, in another match he went to high-five a teammate after his first defensive intervention, despite having been at the club for only a few months. Defensively, he calls him masterful, and after years in which Atleti struggled at the back, he believes signing Cuti has been the best move of this window and of a long time.
Rubén Uría picks up the thread with caution, as it is still early days, but admits he is starting to think this could prove to be Atlético's best transfer window in a very long time.
