Alex Cabrera's stats: Simeone, Luis Aragonés and the wins record
Simeone can overtake Luis Aragonés on victories, and fittingly it would come against Barça
Rubén Uría and Alex Cabrera compare the numbers of Simeone and Luis Aragonés
If Atlético win on Sunday, Simeone will overtake Luis Aragonés as the coach with the most league victories. Alex Cabrera sees it as a response to Simeone's critics, while Rubén Uría highlights one figure: he has done it in 192 fewer games.
Rubén Uría wraps up the statistical preview of Atleti v Barça with Alex Cabrera, discussing the record at stake against Barça: if Atlético win, Simeone will overtake Luis Aragonés in victories. For Cabrera, "it is very significant for a coach who receives so much criticism", someone accused of not playing on the front foot, and he thinks it would be a nice statistic if it came, fittingly, against Barcelona.
Uría admits he was unaware of one of the figures: Luis Aragonés won six trophies with Atlético, while Simeone has eight. Even so, he warns that "you can't directly compare that Atleti with this one, because those were different times and a different kind of football".
What he finds astonishing is the pace: reaching those 344 victories in 192 fewer matches. Cabrera puts it bluntly: "It's incredible, and it shows the quality of the coach, who has always got the team into the European places."
